Living with Cancer

Wattle in our Garden An Education and Information Program for people with cancer, their families and friends.

The Living with Cancer Education Program helps everyone concerned through difficult times.

If you have cancer you just want life to get back to normal. You are not alone. We can answer your questions, give advice on how to handle difficult situations and inform you about the physical, mental and social aspects of cancer.

The Living with Cancer Education Program was designed by the Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria to offer people with cancer and their family or friends an opportunity to learn more about cancer and how to live with it.

The Program is FREE

It is conducted in small groups for two hours a week over six to eight weeks

Each group has specially trained program leaders

Groups consist of men and women of all ages with varying types and stages of cancer

It is a supportive and caring program

You will all share the experience of cancer.

Every Day of Your Life

The Program provides many skills to help bring quality back to life.

The Living with Cancer Education Program was designed to offer ways of building self-confidence, knowledge and self-help skills.

It uses videos and guest speakers who are experts in particular fields to encourage discussion and help answer your questions. Each course is tailored to suit your needs.

The Program contains a lot of advice, such as:

gif gif  Coping with reactions to cancer.
gif gif  How important is diet?
gif gif  What exercise could you be doing?
gif gif  How can community resources help?
gif gif  What can friends or family do?
gif gif  How to communicate with children, family, friends and work colleagues.

It also teaches you some very useful skills, such as:

gif How you can get the most out of your time with your doctor.
gif How you can cope with treatment side effects.
gif How you can relax.

One of the best things about the Program is that you're with a group of people who are going through similar experiences to yourself.

Every Day of Your Life

Participants are encouraged to take an active part in the Program.

As a Participant you are encouraged to suggest topics for discussion that you need information about. The major part of each session is discussion of issues that relate to the needs of the patient and the carer. There will be plenty of time to have your questions answered. You will also be given information and skills to take home.
