Warrnambool Athletics Clubroom
The club was formed in 1966 to promote a race with better prize money than was normally given at the professional cross country club runs in Melbourne. The first committee members were Bernie Kelly, Frank Doherty, Ernie Myers, Geoff Fotheringham, George Burrow, Margaret Kelly and Maureen Collins/Kelly. The first run was held on 22nd october 1966 and was run from Warrnambool Swan Reserve to Mickey Bourkes Koroit hotel via the hospital which made it longer than the rest of the events. This race was confined to western district runners.
The rest of the runs were run from Swan reserve to the koroit hotel down the princes highway to Illowa then to Southern Cross and straight in to Koroit to the Koroit hotel and were open to all P.C.C.C. members now V.C.C.L .VICTORIAN CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE. Allen "MICK" Kelly took over running of race Gorger Burrow as president. Mick did most of work. We ran a sweep on the Warrnambool cup to raise funds. Had great help from Eily Kelson of the Courthourse Hotel diaoganally opposite the Koroit Hotel which is now closed.
